Buzz TV Evaluation

The magazine show we did in September - October was created by the whole class as a group.
Conner was the producer of the show and Bom the director. The job roles where decided together in the class but the last decision was made by James, our tutor. On the day that the job roles were decided I was ill for the whole week and I wasn't in so because of this i didn't have the chance to pick a role.
At the end my job role was assistant camera operator for Raymond and also a presenter for the Fashion part, wich I got promoted on the last moment because the original presenter Nada couldn't show up on the day of the live show.
The live show was held in the TV Studio and was presented by Jacq and Georgina.Their script was written by Samya. Before the actual live show we made three rehearsals, that went pretty good, we just didn't have enough players for the game show. The same problem was on the day of the show as well, so we used some of our class mates to play.
The game part was about finding the Mars bars in a pool full of balls. Three contestants dived in the pool and someone found the Mars bar and won.
The technical issues were very few, because the more we rehearsed before the more we knew how to handle them. I think at the final program the only problem was at the end some sound issues, and also when I was presenting the Fashion Tips the volume of my microphone was very low.
During the show we introduced our video inserts, that were created specially for the "Buzz TV". My group's video insert was the Top 4 Music Videos of the week.
The entertainment news were presented by Jordan Nizbitz, he was filmed on a green screen so it looked a bit weird the background, and I think his voice was too low.
My Fashion part went well, just the microphone as I said before was low. I introduced the video insert made from London Fashion Week and talked a bit about what's in trend nowadays.
The rest was very well handled by the presenters, no one forget their lines and they managed to finish everything on time. The last part of the show we had a singer as a guest , who was interviewed by Georgina and Jacq and at the end of the show he performed his debut single.
The whole show last 23 minutes.

Insert Evaluation

In this insert were involved Jacq Charles , Denis Maria and Valonkorn, Jacq was the editor and the director of the insert. Denis came with the idea for her short music video and stars in it.
The top 4 music parody videos was our best idea for this project. First of all because we love music and we have fun filming short music videos like we wanted to. We had no budget and not expensive equipment. We filmed it with our own camera DSLR on the streets and at the college studio.
Our number 4 video I assume it was filmed somewhere in London, I bet Jacq knows better about this because I wasn't there with them, even if I wished Jacq usually doesn't get me involved in stuff that he thinks I can't contribute with nothing or that doesn't suits me. The camera belonged to Jacq so he didn't need me too much. He is right because hip hop music does not suits me. The video is very simple , there is Bom wich was in our group and another guy that Jacq picked to star in the video.
Video number three again the guys that star in the video are Bom and Jason , I know that Jacq picked Jason because he really looks alike like the guy from the original video. He also brought some dancers to entertain the public and to make it look like a video from these days.
In the video number two I am in it, dancing and playing with front of the camera in our studio along with the song. I chose a pop old song because is different from the other's genre in our top 4 music chart. The concept is simple I wanted it to look like I am doing a commercial for a brand and get silly in front of the camera.I also think that the lyrics of the song really defines me and many people or boys or my boyfriend can relate to it, it's a nice love song with a dancing rhythm.
Video number four I think is the best video from our chart, the effects and the shots are amazing and Jacq stars in it. It was filmed in Piccadilly and the song is "Therraflu" by Kanye West

About music videos

A music video or song video is a short film integrating a song and imagery, produced for promotional or artistic purposes. Modern music videos are primarily made and used as a marketing. device intended to promote the sale of music recordings.
Their purposes are to promote an artist and to sell the song and to entertain the public.
Music videos use a wide range of styles of film making techniques, including animation, live action filming, and non-narrative approaches such as abstract films.
They started from MTV, the fist music channel to support music videos.
There are many music labels, especially in USA, like Sony owned by Tommy Mottola.
The concepts for music videos are inspired from everyday life, movies, other music videos, or maybe from your creative mind, from other countries culture. Everything you see in a music video from color, action, actors or background , the director of it decides, or maybe even the artist know what he wants in his own music video. Artists will always try to make the video to fit with the lyrics, so basically they get inspired for their music video from the lyrics of the song.
When it comes to the color of the video it can be black and white which classic, it can be the normal color we see everyday in life, or it can be red, blue and so one, or it can be even mixt like color and black and white:

A video can have crazy effects as well, because it really depends on the artist taste or they get inspired
by the lyrics, in the next video you can see some cool effects and you can see that Madonna is all painted in silver which is a really great natural effect that artists can use, so is not Rihanna who was the first one to be painted in silver like she claimed in an interview for her music video "Umbrella", which shows that artists get inspired or they are copying other artists as well when it comes to music videos:

A music video can also send a message to the public or even to be based on tabu subjects like sexuality.
Video message:

Sex video:

A video can also be based only on a great choreography like the next one:

Some music artists make a music video from their personal footages or from footages from their concerts:

Music video also been inspired from Hollywood films like the next one:

For my music video I had a simple concept, with a femme fatale inspired from my film noir role, and a guy that obviously i have to kill again.

I did this project by myself, so I was the director, the cameraman, the editor and the actress in the video, and I had a friend to be the male in the video.
I filmed this video at my house, because the concept was pretty simple and easy, and I filmed everything in my room basically. There were no risk assessments at all.The video was filmed in black and white and color as well. I used in the video two knifes but everything was under my control so no accidents happened.I struggled a bit with the filming because I did not have any help, I filmed myself most of the shots with a single camera which took me a longer time then others, because others in the class worked in groups so they finished more quicker then me. In the end even if I was by myself I am very satisfied with the results and happy about my music video.

Film noir Pre-production diary

  • 05/12/11
We meet all four of us in a pod in college and we recorded our ideas, and discuss the characters and figure out some location, our main ideas
I said my idea and everyone pretty much liked that and we remain  with my main idea. Then we decided that I should be the femme fatale and Jacq the detective.

  • 06/02/12 we had another meeting we talked
about equipment, characters, schedules, scripts, location. and then me and Eyyaz started to write the script later on.

  • 10/02/12 Later on Mohamed joined our group, and he was the D.O.P, so we met at Eyyaz's house to write the shot scenes. We spend a few hours on that.

1/03/12 - scene 1
We all met at Eyyaz's house  and we filmed scene 1 which was the part when I walk chill on the street with the
coffee in my hand and suddenly I see a newspaper with an interesting subject about this detective and this way I become
interested in meeting him. We filmed this scene in Baker Street not far from Eyyaz's house. Later in the afternoon we filmed another scene with me walking to his house in Regent's Park dressed very nice.

05/03/12 - scene 2 (attempt 1) & scene 4
We met again at Eyyaz's house and we filmed in the hotel where he is living , so for scene 2 we chose a nice hotel room from first floor, and there is happening out first meeting, me with the detective . And we have a conversation about what happened recently in my life and how I
need him to resolve this mistery I'm in now , but he reminds me that he lost his job and he is not ready to take this job in, then I gave him a good amount of money and that makes him to change his mind. Later we filmed scene 4 in the hotel's restaurant, when me and the detective meet to talk about my husband's killer, and I give him all the documents he needs. Scene 4 was the hardest scene for me , because the lines were hard to for me to pronounce .

12/03/12 - scene 5
Scene 5 was at my house, I invited all the guys and we filmed in my room and my kitchen and even in my shower. The detective comes to my house while i am in the shower and by accident he finds the front door open and comes in ,looks around the house, even goes into my room and finds out the truth that I actually killed my husband because he finds some important papers that proves that. Then I come from the shower and we have a conversation but I send him home very quickly promising to him that I am going to visit his house later.

14/03/12 - scene 2 (attempt 2)
We had to re-shoot some parts of scene 2 , because the first time I was very distracted and I was laughing all the time.

20/03/12 - scene 3 & scene 7
On that day we filmed scene 3, when Jacq goes to the phone box and gives me a call saying that he takes the job. The scene was filmed in Baker Street. Scene 7 was the chasing scene , when Jacq goes after me because I said to him the whole truth and now he wants to arrest me. but after he catches me he says that he is going to offer me the help that I might need.

14/05/12 - scene 6 & scene 8
On scene 6 I go back to his house, and we talked and I recognize him the whole truth , and when he wants me to arrest me I hit him and I run away, and he's coming after me. This happens at Eyyaz's hotel in Baker Street.
The final scene which is scene 8, we filmed it in college, is how Jacq comes to visit me in a mental hospital.

Music Video Evaluation

Explain a little a bit about the task you was set and if you got in a group or not.
The task was to do some research about music videos and then to create one of our own. At first I was in a group of four, but later we separate and I chose to be by myself, because I had an idea in my head that no one in the class agreed with it, so I did it myself.

Did you research any other music videos?
I haven't made any research for my music video, but my main inspiration to be attractive in the video was Madonna, but i didn't copy the idea of anyone.

What did you look at and notice about other music videos while you researched?
I was looking for attractive females.

How did you come up with your idea?
My ideea came from the film noir that I did with other group for college, and I played the femme fatale and I enjoyed so much playing that role, because I have been a huge fan of femme fatals from the 30s and 50s and I always wanted to play in a film noir. But my film noir was modern. So then I thought i am going to do a music video that is related to the film noir, it's basically me from the film but before meeting Jacq as the detective, and before my husband from the film.

How long did it take you to come up with your idea?
5 seconds. I always wanted to do this and i found very quickly the perfect song for it, and it really matched with everything i wanted.

Who helped you record your music video? (you can include people out side of the course like your mum and people who also stared in the music video)
I did it by myself, but I asked the help of one of my friends to stare in my video, because I needed a male to kill.

How long did it take you to record the music video?
About 3 days because I filmed everything by myself so I struggle a bit with the time, I did a lot of shots, they are not all of them in the video, I selected the best ones.

Do you think you could have made any improvements on your video?/If so what do you think you could have improved on or done differently?
Yes of course, I would have liked more shots with the male , and some colors a bit different.

Over all are you happy with your music video? What are you most happy about and proud of about your music video?
Yes I am very happy with my music video, especially the fact that I have done it all myself, from filming to editing and even starring in it. The most proud I am about the edit of ti, because I didn't know that I can edit so good and actually to make it have sense.

Clay Animation

Evaluation of clay animation

Gumbasia is a 3 minute 10 second short film produced in 1953 and released in 1955, was the first clay animation produced by Art Clokey, who went on to create the classic series Gumby and Davey and Goliath using the same technique.
Gumbasia was made on a ping-pong table in Clokey's dad's garage and demonstrates the moving power of Kinesthetic film principles.
Aardman is a British animarion studio based in Bristol, United Kingdom. The studio is known for films made using stop motion clay animation techniques, particularly those featuring Plasticine characters Wallace and Gromit.

Jacq and myself we worked as a group on clay animation, and we did the original clay animation and our gambasia.
The claymation animation we did is a bit weird , is about this “hot girl” and this small figurine freak that he puts his eyes on her.But the characters are quite funny.
The film is very short is about 11 seconds. We used college clay, which was a bit hard to make more smooth so that we can use it properly.
We finish this clay animation very quickly in one day.
The editing was good , we change the colors and we cut some shot, then we added sound which is the song “Sexy and I know it” and the sound of a “laugh”, which is very funny.
I didn’t get too much feedback, but the feedback that I got everyone said that it’s very funny but too short.
We haven’t managed our time very good, because me and Jacq missed the first week after the Easter holiday when this project started in the class, so we were the lasts to do the claymation animation. And because we were so late that’s why we didn’t have time to make it much longer and much professional.
Next time I will definitely change the aspect, the story , the sound the characters to make it look like a real TV animation.
I do enjoy more the Gumbasia then the Claymation animation. It looks much better and it makes more sense.
I did get involved in this project a lot,  we did the claymation and Gumbasia together in the class, but Jacq edited and I am the most proud of the Gumbasia because it looks more natural and well done.
Overall I know I could have done it much better, I am not that proud about it, but I really struggled with the clay animation, for me it was a very complicated task, is not easy and I am not that talented at making characters. Next time I will give myself more time and I will put more effort into it.

CWC IDENT EVALUATION

CWC  Ident Evaluation

My group for this Ident was Nada, Bom and Aisha. Our Ident is 45 sec. long and it’s made from Istop motion.
At first we put our ideas together in mind maps and then we picked one together as a group. My main idea was to say “Hello” in many different languages so this way we show that the college brings together all nationalities. The rest of the ident was to show how popular the C&W College is. We found in a newspaper a CWC advert and a student looks through it, and then we zoom into that advert. Then we make a search on an Iphone showing that you can have an AP for CWC as well.
The Ident starts with a nice way of saying "Hello" to everyone in different languages, so each person that holds the paper with "Hello" is in their language, the person is from that country. This way we wanted everybody to feel welcomed in our college.
After the group of people we show a big "Hello" ,in english of course , and we zoom in and fade into another shot.
My crew was very determinate and they really worked hard, and we finished this sooner then we thought! Each one of us did a task and at the end we put everything together and the results were great.
About me i can say I could have done better, I came up with the main idea of the Ident, which is saying "Hello" in many different languages, but i didn't put any effort in editing or filming, next time i would like to get more involved in the production.
We managed our time very good and we finished on time everything.
I think we finished everything from the brief, we've done the mind maps, video pitch, story boards and the final Ident.
Almost everything went well, just the fact that in the begging we hoped we will make cut animation but we run out of time and we did it with Istop motion, but still  looks very good. And we could have been more creative, and maybe using more brights colors. Next time I would like to have more options showing how popular the CWC is actually in London and how good the teachers are and the program of the college for its students.
The thing that i am most proud of is that we managed to bring so many people of different cultures together to pose for this college IDENT, this shows how loved is this college and how everybody supports it.
The feedback was pretty encouraging , most of them they liked the idea of "Hello" in different languages, they found it original and special. Someone said that we should have change the color a it to look more professional and to fix the black bars around the pictures in some shots! But other then that everyone enjoyed very much this Ident.

Cutout animation is a technique for producing animations using flat characters, props and backgrounds cut from materials such as paper, card, stiff fabric or even photographs. The world's earliest known animated feature films were cutout animations (made in Argentina by Quirino Cristiani);as is the world's earliest surviving animated feature.
My cutout animation is made from newspapers. I chose some of the characters from the paper, cut it out with a scissor and tried to make a story. As a background me and Jordan chose an entire page of the newspaper which was a big commercial for “Rice and Veg”, it looked like a very nice cartoon from someone’s garden.
Our 3 characters where Katy Perry, Jessie J and the Meerkat from the famous commercial "market.com" .
The story is simple, Katy perry still cries after the break up with Rusell Brand and Jessie J makes fun of her and laughs in her face saying that Rusell is hers. That makes Katy cry and we show some tears made of paper. We played her own song "The one that got away" because it really suits her situation. Everything meant to be funny and this is all we could came up with.
Later the meerkat comes into the scene to calm down the "bitches"
Later after the fight between Katy and Jessie comes out the Meerkat himself and tries to calm down both of them saying to stop the fight because they are both two "bitches", then the girls agree with that and choose to leave , letting the meerkat to be the star of the show. After the girl get out of the scene the meerkat cames in the centre and eats a cookie which looks like a 3D. When the meerkat comes in the song theme changes from Katy Perry song to the theme of Looney tunes because it's really funny and it specially for a cartoon.
The feedback was pretty good, everyone like the "cookie scene" which they called it 3D, my intention wasn't to look 3D I just thought it will be a good idea and unique.
Someone said that I should have used some voiceover, I think that was my weakness.
Also one of my animation weakness was the fact that we didn't finish it in one day , so the next day the way that the background was used in another position and you can see very easily that.
Our strong point I think was the fact that we put that cookie in the show.
Overall the animation for the first time looks fine, and it's quite funny.

My animation, and Eadweard Muybride!

Eadweard Muybridge
(Edward James Muggeridge)

Was an English photographer(1830-1904) known for his pioneering work on “animal locomotion” which used multiple cameras to capture motion.

·      In San Francisco in 1866 rapidly he became successful in photography, focusing on landscapes and architectural subjects.
·      Muybridge claimed that he first employed this mechanism, which he called a zoopraxiscope, in the fall of 1879, at Sanford's house. A subsequent demonstration of the projector at Marey's studio in 1881 was described in Parisian news- papers.
·      Muybridge's work in the synthesis of motion was soon forgotten. He was the first to admit that his technique had been superseded, and to give credit to Edison for his perfection of the zoopraxiscope.
·      Muybridge's work was specifically created for the purpose of stopping action. It was analytical; he strove to freeze motion, to hold still for our contemplation the most rapid muscular movements of man and beast.
·      His pioneering came in the form of using still photos to capture motion.
·      Muybridge was the man who famously proved a horse can fly. Adapting the very latest technology to his ends, he proved his theory by getting a galloping horse to trigger the shutters of a bank of cameras.

Ten facts on Edward Muggeridge:
1.

He changed his name more than his facial hair.

2.

He was acquitted for the Murder of his wife’s lover.

3.

He created two panoramas of San Francisco, one seventeen foot long.

4.

Francis Bacon owned four copies of Humans in Motion.

5.

Muybridge also documented a Baboon in motion.

6.
He changed his first name to conform to the Saxon spelling and a possible Spanish lineage; he became "Eadweard."

7.
He found work as a commission merchant, initially for the London Printing and Publishing Company

8.
Muybridge was a good businessman who, in just a few years, had set himself up nicely.

9.
Muybridge was well known on the lecture circuit, not only in California, but on the East Coast and in Europe. He continued his studies of animal motion, and displayed the zoopraxiscope at the Columbian Exposition of 1893.

10.

In his last years, he returned to Kingston-on-Thames where he died on May 8, 1904. The Washington Post, concluded that Muybridge "showed the world how people and animals actually move and permanently altered our perception of time and space."

My ident is the Channel 4 one.
Comparing my ident with the first ident from E4 mine is very relaxing , which is exactly what we need for a break. My ident reflects exactly the idea of the break, like we take breaks from films or shows that we are watching certain people who travel take small break and stop by the petrol station, or by the diner.
But the first ident from E4 it's like a mess, it's in a small room, very crowdy, with a lot of things going on, it actually makes you feel tired and confusing and uncomfortable by showing stuff sinking in their own floor.
My ident is the best because represents the break that people need sometimes, and it keeps you from not to change the channel because you want to see that big 4 , it's like a challenge for our brain to see where the 4 is hiding!
The colors though in both idents are very bright and all over the place. But in the Channel 4 Ident we can clearly see that it's about Channel 4, but on the E4 Ident we can't realize straight away that this Ident belongs to E4. To be honest I don't understand very clearly what's going on in E4 Ident, there are some pink trees , pink cows, pink mushrooms , like a farm or something, even the carpet is green grass, and all of this happens in a bedroom, it probably represents the bedroom that we are staying everyday watching tv late at night. From a normal house room it transforms in a purple room, because purple is the color that represents channel E4. On the Channel 4 Ident it's dark outside so I am sure that they show this Ident after 9 p.m, and the huge 4 upon the diner helps to light up the environment.

Channel Idents- when a channel create their own little advert specially for their channel to promote the logo and the channel. They represent the channel.
Indents allows channels to be recognized quickly and easily by the viewers.
Station identification used to be done regularly by an announcer at the halfway point during the presentation of a television program, or in between programs.
Broadcast stations in Europe do not identify by using a callsign, however most networks use a brand based on their common channel number.
In the present day, most broadcasters use a set of multiple idents built around a certain theme or branding element, often based on the channel's current overall look.
Some stations, especially television stations, identify themselves at or near every half-hour, though only once per hour is required.

They all have in common their huge logos popping in.
They have very colorful logos and science fiction thing going on.
The action happens outside.
There's sound in each one of them.
The logos are somewhere in the air, they are floating in the air.
In all of them you can see water, a river or the sea.

• What is editing?
The process of selecting different shots and put them together to make us a story.
Putting together different shots to make them have sense.

• What is Elliptical editing?
makes screen time shorter than story time by cutting out unnecessary actions; condenses time by inferring total actions we only see in part.

• Why are long shots used?
because they show the entire object or human figure and is usually intended to place it in some relation to its surroundings.

• What is ‘non-diagetic sound’?

• How do we know she is bending down to pick up the ring? (what shots are used and why?)

First you open final cut and select a video!

After you select you video click on it, and change the name of the video if you would like, it will make your work more easily to have organized.

Eventually if you have too many videos you can create a Bin, which is similar to a folder in the computer, where you can put different videos.

Rename you new bin, and move the videos there.

You add comments or description to each video.

You can even say which kind of shot it is.
All of this will help you to manage your videos or sequences more easily.
